The city of Riverside CA is the largest city of Inland Empire and it was founded in the early 1870s.   The city is recognized for the citrus industry and it had the first orange trees planted in 1871.  The citrus industry in this city began in 1874.

Today, the city of Riverside displays 40 acres of unusual plants with 4 miles of walking trails within the grounds of The University of California Riverside Botanical Gardens.  These gardens located in Box Springs Mountains in the Northwestern area of Riverside contain more than 3,500 species of plants from around the world.

Another great museum to visit is the Riverside Metropolitan Museum, it was founded in 1924 and it’s now located in the historic Mission Inn district of Riverside.  The museum is a history, anthropology and also a natural museum.  It has an area dedicated to the naturalist Edmund C. Jaeger and to the natural landscape of Southern California.

The Fox Performing Arts Center is a spectacular colonial Spanish style building located in downtown Riverside.  In 1930s and 40s, this theater was used by the Hollywood industry to show previews of new movies before their final editing. Today the theater serves as a facility for the use of the community and it offers performing arts events.

Riverside has another important landmark, it’s the navel orange tree that was planted in 1870s.  The tree was brought to California from Brazil and it still remains in Riverside for everyone to see.

The Mission Inn Hotel and Spa is a member of the Historic Hotels of America which is the official program of the National Trust for Historic Preservation.  The hotel is a beautiful historical landmark located in Downtown, it was designed by multiple architects and has a variety of styles.  The hotel offers a festival of lights every year during the holyday season, with almost 3 million Christmas lights and 400 animated figures.
